How to calculate your annual salary

To convert an hourly wage to a yearly salary, multiply your hourly rate by the number of hours you work each week, then by the number of paid weeks you work each year:

Annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year

Example. If you earn $20 per hour and work 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, your annual salary is 20 × 40 × 52 = $41,600 before tax. A standard full-time year is 40 hours × 52 weeks. If you take two weeks of unpaid leave, set weeks per year to 50.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert my hourly wage to an annual salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work per week, then by the number of paid weeks you work per year. For a standard full-time job that is hourly × 40 × 52. Example: $20/hour × 40 hours × 52 weeks = $41,600 per year, before tax.

How many work weeks should I use — 50 or 52?

Use 52 if you are paid for the full year including vacation (most salaried-style hourly jobs). Use 50 if you take two weeks of unpaid leave. The calculator lets you set this so the figure matches your real situation.

$20 an hour is how much a year?

$20 an hour is $41,600 per year before tax, based on a 40-hour week for 52 weeks. That works out to about $3,467 per month and $800 per week. Your take-home pay will be lower after federal, state and FICA taxes.

$25 an hour is how much a year?

$25 an hour is $52,000 per year before tax (40 hours × 52 weeks), roughly $4,333 per month and $1,000 per week.

Is this salary before or after tax?

The result is your gross (pre-tax) salary. To estimate what actually lands in your bank account, use a take-home pay calculator that applies federal, state and FICA deductions.

How do I convert a salary back to an hourly rate?

Switch to the "Salary → Hourly" tab. The calculator divides your annual salary by your total paid hours (hours per week × weeks per year). For example, $60,000 ÷ (40 × 52) = about $28.85 per hour.
